APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR SPRING BREAK TRIP!

Dear potential Alternative Breaker,

Please ignore this email if you have already been selected to participate in an Alternative Breaks trip this year.

If you missed the deadline, or even if you have already submitted your application(s), you have yet another opportunity to apply for our program!

The Restoring our Natural Landscapes in Argentina Alternative Spring Break trip has reopened its application process!

The deadline to submit your paper application is Thursday, February 2nd at 6pm and the Site Leaders will be holding rolling interviews throughout the entire time period. If you turn in your application sooner, then you will be more likely to be interviewed and considered for participation.

If you are interested, here are the steps to take:

1. Turn in a paper application (download from abatucsd.wordpress.com) and your Winter Quarter schedule to the Alternative Breaks@UCSD mailbox on the 3rd floor of Price Center, directly behind One Stop.

2. Email abargentina2012@gmail.com to confirm that you dropped off your application and to schedule an interview.

Here is some information about the AB Argentina Trip from the Site Leaders:

Restoring our Natural Landscapes in Argentina

Host organization: Center for Global Volunteer Service

Length/date: 1 week during Spring Break

Cost: ~$3,000 (all inclusive – airfare and program fee)

Based in the Rio Azul Protected Natural Area, we will be working with the local community promoting and teaching sustainable living techniques including organic farming and gardening, energy and resource efficient construction, and alternative energy source development.

Fall Quarter Retreat

Great job to Albert An Le and May Chang for putting on an awesome, organized, and fun Welcome to Alternative Breaks Fall Quarter Retreat! We are overjoyed at how much enthusiasm and active engagement was seen at the retreat. Congratulations, and we have no doubt that we’ll be having an even better Winter Retreat :)

Last Chance to Apply for AB Summer Philippines!

Dear Potential Alternative Break Participant,

This is a reminder that if you would like to apply for the Summer Building Empowerment trip to the Philippines, please submit your application to the Alternative Breaks@UCSD Mailbox on the 3rd Floor of Price Center East next to the One Stop desk by TOMORROW at 9:00am (November 3rd). You can also scan and email your application before then to the Site Leaders as well.


If you have NOT YET applied to Alternative Breaks or have only applied to ONE trip, interview slots are availabletomorrow (Nov 3rd) at 1:00-2:00PM and 2:00-3:00PM, and a morning interview from 10:00-11:00AM can be arranged if the other two times do not work for your schedule.


If you are not selected for the TWO trips you have applied for and would like to be considered for the AB Philippines trip, please express interest by emailing the Site Leaders when both trips have notified you of your application status. You would also need to be able to interview on Friday, November 4th at a time to be determined so that we can have you attend our Fall Retreat this Saturday.

Dear potential Alternative Breaker,

The Building Empowerment in the Philippines Summer Break trip has reopened its application process. The deadline to submit your paper application is Thursday, November 3 at 9am and the Site Leaders will be holding rolling interviews throughout the whole week.

If you are interested, here are the steps to take:

1. Turn in a paper application (download from abatucsd.wordpress.com) to the Alternative Breaks@UCSD mailbox on the 3rd floor of Price Center, directly behind One Stop.

2a. If this is your FIRST or SECOND application, please email abphilippines22012@gmail.com with your availability for an interview between today and Thursday at 4pm.

2b. If this is your THIRD application, you will only be considered for this trip if you are not selected for the two trips you have already applied to. Your interview will take place this Friday, so please email abphilippines22012@gmail.com with your availability to interview on Friday, November 4th.

Here is some information about the AB Philippines Summer Trip from the Site Leaders:

Building Empowerment in the Philippines 

Host organization: Gawad Kalinga

Length/date: 2 weeks/ leaving 4 days after graduation

Cost: ~$2,000 (all inclusive – airfare and program fee)

Gawad Kalinga is all about building empowered communities. It is driven by a culture of caring and sharing, dedicated to eradicate poverty and restore human dignity. Its mission is to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024.
Our mission will be to work along side communities to promote a culture of empowerment. We will serve the community members by helping them with the construction of houses that will be given to families suffering from poverty (currently 4.5 million people are homeless in the Philippines). We will also get involved in projects to develop these community members into leaders, equipping them with the skills and power to work towards their mission of ending poverty.

If you haven’t yet applied for the Alternative Breaks need-based scholarship, then you are in luck! We are extending the deadline to turn in the scholarship application to THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28TH BY 11:59PM! Please visit the Scholarship tab at the top of this website to fill out the application.

Participant Applications now CLOSED!

Our Undergraduate and Alum/Grad Participant application process is now CLOSED. If you’d like to apply for Alternative Breaks, please come back closer to the end of next summer. The application process will restart in the next academic year in Fall Quarter.
